Endodontics

A properly treated tooth means a saved tooth! Endodontics is that branch of dentistry in charge with the treatment of the soft tissue inside the tooth, the famous canal treatment.  There are a few symptoms that indicate an infection of the pulp and in this situation you need to urgently go to the dentist because the endodontic intervention makes the difference between saving the tooth and its extraction. It is a matter of:

  • The pain that may or may not spread to the neighbouring areas
  • Dental sensitivity to cold or hold foods, when you bite or chew
  • Inexplicable pain in a tooth that has already been treated
  • When you see a swelling at the base of the tooth and its discoloration
  • The lymph nodes around the neck and head are swollen

How is the endodontic treatment carried out?

The endodontic treatment has the role of removing the infection from the dental pulp. It has several stages:

  • Cleaning the root canals.
  • Their mechanical processing,
  • Sterilisation of canals
  • Finally, their obstruction.

In the DENTPRIORITY clinics, the endodontic treatments can also be done by using the dental microscope by doctors with solid experience. If the tooth and dental puls are cleaned and well sterilised, subsequent infections can be prevented. Obviously, the dental treatment does not end when the canals are blocked. The tooth is then restored to its original shape. There are situations where the tooth needs to be covered with dental crowns. Studies show that in the case where the tooth is left unprotected, the risk of fracture is of 65 percent. Unfortunately, the only alternative to endodontic treatment is tooth extraction. Patients should know that this type of dental treatment is painless because the tooth is anesthetised during the procedure.

The advantages of the dental microscope

As we were saying, in the DENTPRIORITY clinics, the endodontic treatments are carried out by means of a dental microscope. In the case of classical canal treatment, the success rate is of 50-60 percent. If this treatment is carried out with the microscope, this rate exceeds 90%. The dental microscope helps dentists to have a much better visibility on the affected area. The visibility on the details is also clearly higher due to enlarging and lighting that area. The image under the microscope is magnified from 4x to 25x and is very clear. This way, those teeth that until recently were condemned for extraction can now be saved.

The advantages of the dental microscope in endodontics:

    • To identify the additional canals
    • To identify the canal inlet orifices
    • To treat the calcified canals
    • To restore the canal treatments previously carried out in an incorrect manner
    • To seal the root perforations
    • To remove the needles broken from the canals
    • To detect the root fractures
